- <p> While Al Gore, Mario Cuomo and other big-name Democrats
- continue to shy away from the presidential race, lesser-known
- hopefuls are trotting forward. Now seriously considering a run:
- Democratic Senator MAX BAUCUS of Montana. A plainspoken
- moderate, Baucus knows he is a longshot against Bush (who
- isn't?). But Baucus feels that winning the nomination would at
- least give him the chance to position himself for 1996.
