<p> While Al Gore, Mario Cuomo and other big-name Democrats
continue to shy away from the presidential race, lesser-known
hopefuls are trotting forward. Now seriously considering a run:
Democratic Senator MAX BAUCUS of Montana. A plainspoken
moderate, Baucus knows he is a longshot against Bush (who
isn't?). But Baucus feels that winning the nomination would at
least give him the chance to position himself for 1996.
